  • Career Lessons from House of Cards

I, like many, many other twenty-somethings, love House of Cards. The show is genius, both in its delivery and in its content, including the dialogue. Here are my favorite lines, interpreted as career advice, especially for the PR girl. “Even Achilles was only as strong as his heel.” This is so simple it’s astounding. Maybe you’re writing skills are not quite as good as you’d like them to be. Work on it! Seeing no results for all your pitching efforts? Improve them! Don’t let something you can easily work to improve bring you down.

  • #FridayFive: PR Girls to follow

I didn’t realize until the a couple years ago just how many loud & proud PR girls there are! It’s great to have such an amazing network online and off of likeminded ladies for support and guidance. If anything, that’s the biggest lesson I’ve found this year, and in starting this blog. It’s important for all of us PR girls to support and help each other, no matter what stage of our career we’re in. Five PR Girls To Follow

  • My Top Three Instagram Crushes

I love Instagram, it’s no secret. That’s why I was so excited when The B Bar announced February’s blog link up topic on The Well. Here are my three favorite Instagram accounts.

  • Staying confident when you don’t have the answers

Let’s set the scene: You’re in a client meeting, going over details for an upcoming campaign. You’ve run through all the pertinent information, answered a bunch of questions and you’re confident you’ve hit all the bases and are ready to get out of the meeting and move onto other things. But wait – your client has one more question to ask. You listen attentively and open your mouth to answer when the question is complete but – oh no! – you don’t actually know the answer! You begin to sweat and you’re at a loss. What do you do now? Like those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books I loved as a kid (and…

  • #FridayFive – Valentine’s Day edition

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend and if, like me, you don’t have plans with your loved one, it’s the perfect time to spoil yourself a bit! There are plenty of things that you can do to celebrate & love yourself this weekend. Here are a few of my favorites.   Five solo things to do on Valentine’s Day

  • My #AdviceForYoungJournalists

#AdviceForYoungJournalists, the hashtag sparked by Fusion’s Senior Editor Felix Salmon’s piece titled “To all the young journalists asking for advice…,” is full of advice for all those young & aspiring journalists (and PR pros too!) – if you can sort through the heaps of cynicism and sarcasm. Confession: I was a college journalist. PR is a communication-based career and heavily relies on exceptional writing skills to excel, so it should come as no surprise that PR pros and journalists sometimes work on the other side of it from time to time. When I chose PR in college, I wanted to become the best writer I could be and the best…

  • #FridayFive: Job Search Resources

Job (and internship) searching is hard. Looking for jobs takes forever, applying for jobs takes even longer. Then there’s waiting to hear back about your applications, following up with your applications, waiting to schedule interviews and then waiting back for an offer. No one realizes it, but looking and applying for jobs is a full-time job in itself! These are my top five sites to search for jobs.

  • PR Girl Must-Haves: Work from Home

PR girls come in all shapes, sizes and varieties. Some work for big name PR firms and attend all NYFW events and glamours parties. Others work for boutique firms at night because they work another job all day that affords them the chance to do work they’re passionate about without worrying about how to pay the bills. I’m the latter type of PR girl. I primarily work from home in the evening, or the coffee shop down the street or the library. On any given Sunday, you can find me working on my trusty Macbook with my cup of tea and my headphones, hidden in the stacks at the main…

  • My favorite Super Bowl Commercials

I like football a lot, usually, but my favorite part of the Super Bowl every year is watching the commercials. Super Bowl commercials cost millions of dollars a spot so they’re usually the best a brand presents each year, and are totally worth watching. With that said, here are my favorite Super Bowl commercials from this year’s game: Budweiser’s Lost Puppy #BestBuds Budweiser’s Super Bowl commercials are a great example of a brand sticking to it’s brand identity year after year. This year’s spot makes me want to go adopt all the lonely puppies.
